Our 2013 Keynote Speaker

 

 Beckie Fox

is editor-in-chief of Garden Making, a national magazine for avid gardeners in Canada, published in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.Garden Making was launched in March 2010 and is published by Inspiring Media Inc., a company owned by Beckie and her husband.

Beckie was on the editorial team of Canadian Gardening magazine for its first decade, from its launch in 1990 until becoming its editor from 1999 to 2001.

She has taught gardening courses at George Brown College and Toronto Botanical Garden, and has studied horticulture through the University of Guelph.

 

PRESENTATION TOPIC: CONTAINER GARDENING


Beckie Fox's interest in container gardening evolved into her book, The Potted Garden: Creating a Great Container Garden, published in 2002 by Prentice Hall Canada.  In this presentation, Beckie will present a primer on container gardening.  Get tips on how to choose colours and combine plants to create a gorgeous container that looks full and beautiful from the start.

All registrants will receive a complimentary copy of the latest issue of Garden Making magazine.

Sara Williams presents:

The New Prairie Xeriscape – In the 15 years since the original edition of Creating the Prairie Xeriscape was first published, much has changed. Many gardeners are familiar with the term xeriscape. Mulching is now considered standard practice by home gardeners and landscape professionals. What’s different? The vastly increased number of hardy, drought-tolerant plants available to prairie gardeners: over 200 genera, 300 species, and nearly 900 varieties of trees, shrubs, vines, annuals, perennials and bulbs are at our disposal! This presentation will preview the best of the hardy and drought tolerant for prairie gardens.

She is the author of Creating the Prairie XeriscapePerennials for the PrairiesIn a Cold Land: Saskatchewan’s Horticultural Pioneers, and with Hugh Skinner, coauthor of Trees and Shrubs for the PrairiesVines & Groundcovers for the Prairies, and Gardening, Naturally: A Chemical-free handbook for the Prairies.

The revised and greatly expanded edition of Creating the Prairie Xeriscape will be published in February, 2013. Creating the Prairie Xeriscape, will be available for sale throughout the show.
